Cross-cultural duo exhibition, "Stitched & Drawn" features a selection of textile and paper based works by internationally diverse artists, Gözde Ilkin and Siwa Mgoboza. While distinct in practice, both artists are exploring a world of transcendence where absolutes become fluid and open to debate.
Based in Istanbul, Gözde Ilkin is globally celebrated for her use of domestic fabrics, canvas, paper and found objects throughout her practice. Her work depicts abstract social and political relationships, power attitudes and unresolved promises in ambiguous figures that are emancipated from their social and sexual identities.
Siwa Mgoboza is a multidisciplinary artist from South Africa well known for his signature bold textile and photographic works. His work delves into notions of difference and belonging as informed by his personal experiences of prejudice and assimilation.
